Profession
Mechanical Engineer
Machines that move the world
A mechanical engineer designs, tests, and improves anything that moves or transfers energy, from engines and robots to medical devices, HVAC systems, and factory equipment. Your day might involve sketching a part in CAD software, running a simulation, building a prototype, testing it, and meeting with teammates to decide what to change. You work with technicians, manufacturers, and other engineers, and you spend real time documenting decisions and solving problems on the shop floor. You also write reports, review drawings with manufacturers, and learn to balance performance, cost, safety, and deadlines.
