Profession
Manufacturing Engineer
Optimizes industrial production processes.
A manufacturing engineer designs and improves the processes that make products. You decide how a product will be built, which machines and tools to use, how workers and robots should be arranged, and how to keep quality high and costs low. Much of your time is on the plant floor, observing production, solving problems when a line stops, and trying changes. You also write procedures, analyze data, and work with design engineers, suppliers, and operators. Because production never stops for long, you learn to make decisions quickly and with the best data you have.
