Profession
M&A lawyer
Mergers that create value
An M&A lawyer helps companies buy, sell, or merge with other companies. The work revolves around deals: reviewing a target company's contracts and records during due diligence, drafting and negotiating purchase agreements, coordinating with accountants and bankers, and making sure the transaction clears any required regulatory review. Days alternate between close reading, calls with clients and opposing counsel, and intense stretches near a closing when many documents need to be signed at once. Much of the work happens behind the scenes, and a good deal depends on keeping dozens of moving pieces organized.
