Profession
Intensive Care Physiotherapist
Rehabilitates critically ill patients in ICU
You are the physical therapist who helps critically ill patients move and recover, even while they are still in the intensive care unit. As an ICU physical therapist, you work with people who are often on ventilators or recovering from major surgery, trauma, or serious illness. Day to day, you carefully assess what each patient can safely do, then guide early mobilization, from gentle range-of-motion exercises in bed to sitting up, standing, and taking first steps again. You work as part of a critical care team alongside doctors, nurses, and respiratory therapists, and your goal is to prevent the muscle loss and complications that come with lying still, so patients heal faster and regain independence.
