Profession
Swine Veterinarian
Health and production of swine
A swine veterinarian looks after the health of pigs and the herds they live in. You visit farms to examine animals, diagnose diseases, vaccinate, and work with producers to prevent problems before they spread. A normal week can include walking through barns, taking samples, reviewing records, advising on feed and housing, and teaching farm staff about biosecurity and animal welfare. You also respond to emergencies, so you may get calls outside regular hours, and you spend time in a truck driving between sites.
