Profession
Large Animal Veterinarian
Health in the field and animal production.
A large animal veterinarian cares for animals such as cattle, horses, sheep, goats, and pigs. Much of the work happens outside a clinic: driving to farms, ranches, and stables to examine animals, vaccinate herds, assist with births, treat injuries and illnesses, and perform surgeries in barns or fields. You advise owners on nutrition, breeding, and preventing disease, and you help protect food safety and public health. The work is physical, often early in the morning, and sometimes involves emergency calls at night.
