Neonatologist
Intensive care for newborns
A neonatologist is a physician who treats premature and critically ill newborns. You spend your days in the neonatal intensive care unit leading a team that includes nurses, respiratory therapists, dietitians, and pharmacists. You manage breathing support, plan nutrition, treat infections, interpret lab results and imaging, and decide when a baby is stable enough to go home. You also attend high-risk deliveries and have some of the hardest, most honest conversations with parents about what to expect.
