Profession
Pulmonologist
Healthy lungs for a full life.
A pulmonologist is a physician who diagnoses and treats diseases of the lungs and airways, such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pneumonia, pulmonary fibrosis, lung cancer, and sleep-related breathing problems. You see patients in clinics and hospitals, order and interpret breathing tests and imaging, perform procedures like bronchoscopy, and adjust long-term treatment plans. Many pulmonologists also practice critical care, managing patients on ventilators in intensive care units, and they work closely with primary care doctors, radiologists, surgeons, and respiratory therapists.
