Occupational health that protects workers
An occupational physician is a doctor who focuses on how work affects health and how health affects work. You evaluate employees with work-related injuries or illnesses, perform fitness-for-duty and return-to-work assessments, and run medical surveillance for people exposed to chemicals, noise, or other hazards. You also advise employers on safer workplaces, review the medical side of disability and workers' compensation cases, and help design wellness and prevention programs. Time is split between clinic visits, workplace visits, and paperwork.
