Profession
Structural Designer
Precise calculations for safe structures.
A structural designer plans the skeleton of buildings and other structures so they stand up safely. You work with engineers and architects to size beams, columns, and foundations, and then you produce the drawings and models that contractors build from. Your day may include using design software, running calculations, checking codes, revising details after a design change, and talking with the team about how to solve a tricky connection. Some time is spent visiting sites to see how work is progressing.
