Profession
Foundation Engineer
The solid foundation of all construction.
As a foundation engineer, you design the underground base that keeps buildings, bridges, and other structures standing safely. You study the soil and rock beneath a site, figure out how much weight it can support, and design foundations, whether shallow footings or deep piles driven far into the ground, that will hold up over time. Your work protects structures from settling, shifting, or failing, especially in tricky conditions like soft soil or earthquake zones. Your days mix calculations and computer modeling in the office with site visits to inspect ground conditions and construction, working alongside civil and structural engineers, geologists, and construction crews.
