Profession
Flight Test Engineer
Validating aircraft before certification.
As a flight test engineer, you help prove that new aircraft are safe and perform the way they're supposed to before they ever carry passengers or go into service. Day to day, you plan and run tests that push aircraft to their limits, measuring performance, stability, handling, and how their systems behave in real flight conditions. You design test plans, decide what data to collect, set up sensors and instruments, and then analyze mountains of results to see whether the aircraft meets its requirements and certification standards. You work closely with pilots, designers, and other engineers, and sometimes you're in the control room during test flights, watching data live. Your work is a crucial safety checkpoint in aviation.
