Product Designer

A product designer develops physical objects, packaging, and product systems, thinking about how they look, work, and feel in someone's hands. A typical day includes sketching ideas, building models, making digital drawings, testing prototypes with users, and discussing materials and costs with engineers and manufacturers. You balance usability, safety, appearance, and production limits. Designers work in studios, corporate design teams, and consultancies, and they collaborate with engineers, marketers, and suppliers. Sustainability is a growing part of the work, including choosing materials that can be recycled or repaired.
