Profession
Exotic Animal Veterinarian
Takes care of birds, reptiles and other exotic animals.
As an exotic animal veterinarian, you care for the pets and creatures most vets don't handle: birds, reptiles, rabbits, ferrets, amphibians, and sometimes wildlife. Day to day, you examine, diagnose, and treat animals whose bodies and needs vary wildly, from a parrot with a respiratory infection to a bearded dragon that won't eat. You perform exams and surgeries, run lab tests, prescribe medication, and coach owners on proper diet and habitat. You work in specialized clinics, zoos, wildlife rehabilitation centers, or aquariums, often with animals that can't tell you what's wrong and may be stressed or dangerous to handle.
