Profession
Network Engineer
The backbone of connectivity
A network engineer designs, builds, and maintains the systems that connect computers, phones, and services within an organization and to the internet. You plan how routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points fit together, configure them, monitor traffic, and troubleshoot when something slows down or goes offline. You also work on security, backups, and upgrades, and you coordinate with help desk staff, system administrators, and outside vendors, sometimes late at night when maintenance has to happen.
