Profession
Oncological Surgeon
Surgery as a weapon against cancer
A surgical oncologist is a surgeon who removes cancerous tumors and the tissue around them. You meet patients who have a new diagnosis, review scans and pathology reports, explain options in plain language, and plan the operation, often together with oncologists and radiologists in a tumor board. In the operating room you perform procedures that range from minimally invasive to complex open surgery. You also follow patients afterward, manage complications, and talk with families through difficult news, so the work involves both technical precision and compassion.
