Profession
Interventional Cardiologist
Unblocks arteries without open surgery.
As an interventional cardiologist, you are a heart doctor who treats blocked and diseased arteries without open-heart surgery. Using thin tubes called catheters threaded through a small opening, usually in the wrist or groin, you perform procedures like angioplasty and place stents to open clogged arteries and restore blood flow. You often work in emergencies, such as heart attacks, where fast action saves lives, as well as scheduled procedures. You spend time in the catheterization lab, in clinics seeing patients, and coordinating with cardiac surgeons, nurses, and technologists.
