Profession
Professional Cook
The foundation of all great cuisine.
As a professional cook, you spend your shift on the line of a restaurant, hotel, hospital, catering company, or institutional kitchen, turning raw ingredients into consistent plates. You prep vegetables, break down proteins, run a station such as sauté or grill, and follow recipes and portion specs so every dish leaves the pass the same way. You work shoulder to shoulder with other cooks, a sous chef, servers, and dishwashers, and you learn to stay calm when tickets stack up. Food safety is part of every task: temperatures, labeling, cross-contamination, and cleaning.
