Profession
Actuary
It calculates risks with mathematical precision.
You use math and statistics to measure risk and put a price on the future. Day to day you build models that estimate how likely events are, from car accidents to lifespans to natural disasters, and translate them into the premiums and reserves an insurer or pension fund needs. You work mostly in spreadsheets and specialized software, dig into large datasets, and write clear reports that explain your findings to executives who are not mathematicians. Much of the job is collaboration with underwriters, finance teams, and regulators.
