Profession
IFRS Specialist
Ensures compliance with international standards.
An IFRS specialist helps companies prepare and review financial statements using International Financial Reporting Standards, the accounting rules used in many countries outside the United States. In the U.S., most public companies follow U.S. GAAP instead, so IFRS specialists are most often found at multinational companies, foreign subsidiaries, and large accounting firms. You help convert financial statements from one standard to another, research how new rules apply to specific transactions, write accounting memos, and support audits. Much of the day is spent in spreadsheets and accounting systems, reading technical guidance, and talking with finance teams, auditors, and executives.
