Profession
Sign Language Interpreter
Inclusive communication in Libras (Brazilian Sign Language)
A sign language interpreter translates between spoken English and American Sign Language, or another signed language, so that Deaf and hearing people can communicate in real time. You might work in a classroom, a doctor's office, a courtroom, a business meeting, a conference, or through a video call. Before each assignment you prepare vocabulary and background, then focus fully during the session, interpreting accurately and neutrally without adding your own opinions. Interpreting is mentally demanding, so interpreters often work in pairs and take breaks to stay sharp.
