Profession
Set designer
The stage as an artistic language.
A set designer creates the physical world that a story happens in, whether it is a theater stage, a film or TV set, a music video, or a live event. You read the script, talk with the director about the look and feel, then sketch ideas, build scale models, and make detailed drawings that a construction crew can follow. You choose materials, colors, and furniture, work within a budget, and coordinate with lighting, costume, and props teams. During production you spend time in workshops and on set, solving problems quickly when something does not fit or the schedule changes.
