Profession
Landscape architect
Nature and architecture in harmony
A landscape architect designs outdoor spaces, from parks, campuses, and plazas to streets, trails, and residential communities. You study a site, talk with clients and communities, and develop plans that consider drainage, plants, materials, accessibility, and how people will use the space. Your days include sketching, using design and mapping software, preparing construction drawings, visiting sites, coordinating with engineers and contractors, and presenting ideas at public meetings. Many projects also deal with climate, stormwater, and restoring natural systems.
