Profession
Rural Veterinarian
Herd health as a business
A rural veterinarian cares for the health of farm animals such as cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, and poultry. Much of the work happens on farms and ranches, where you might examine a sick animal, deliver a calf, vaccinate a herd, perform minor surgery, or advise the owner on feeding and disease prevention. Your clients are often making a living from their animals, so you think about both the animal's welfare and the health of the whole operation. Days can be long and physical, with plenty of driving between properties.
