Profession
Aquaculture Specialist
Sustainable fish production
As an Aquaculture Specialist, you raise fish, shellfish, and other aquatic life the way a farmer raises crops, but underwater. Your days revolve around keeping animals healthy and the water right: testing oxygen and temperature, feeding on schedule, watching for disease, and adjusting systems when something is off. You might work at a coastal shellfish farm, an inland fish hatchery, a recirculating indoor facility, or a research station. Part of the job is hands-on and physical, and part is careful record-keeping and problem-solving, because a small change in water quality can affect thousands of animals fast.
