Profession
Agricultural Expert
Rural technical assessments
As an agricultural expert, or consulting agronomist, you use science to help farms and rural businesses grow better crops and make smarter decisions. Day to day, you visit fields to inspect soil, plants, pests, and irrigation, then advise growers on what to plant, how to fertilize, and how to protect their harvest. You may prepare technical reports, assess crop damage after a storm or disease outbreak, and serve as an expert witness in disputes over land or agricultural losses. You split your time between being outdoors in the fields and analyzing data, and you work closely with farmers, agribusinesses, and sometimes lawyers or insurance companies.
