Profession
PE/VC Partner
Invests in and transforms companies.
A partner at a private equity or venture capital firm helps decide which companies to invest in and then helps those companies grow. You meet founders and executives, review business plans and financial models, run due diligence, negotiate terms, and sit on boards after the deal closes. You also spend time raising money from investors, called limited partners, and updating them on results. In private equity, you often buy and improve established companies, while in venture capital you back young startups. The work is intense, relationship-driven, and heavily focused on judgment and long-term outcomes.
