As a growth product manager, or growth PM, you lead efforts to help more people discover, sign up for, and keep using a product. Day to day, you look at where users drop off, come up with ideas to fix those spots, and run experiments right inside the product, like testing a new onboarding flow or a feature that encourages people to invite friends. You decide what the team works on, measure the results, and use data to guide your next move. You work closely with designers, engineers, and analysts to turn ideas into features that drive growth. Most growth PMs start with a foundation in business, technology, or data. Many have a bachelor's degree in a related field, and some add an MBA, but experience often matters more. You'll need to understand product management, read data confidently, and know how experiments work. Many people move into growth product management from roles in marketing, analytics, engineering, or general product management. Courses and certifications in product management can help you learn the frameworks and language of the field. Growth PMs are especially valued at tech companies and startups that grow through their product itself, but any company with a digital product may hire them. You'll find these roles on product and growth teams. Many people start as a product analyst, associate PM, or in marketing or growth, then step into a growth PM role as they show they can drive results, later advancing to senior PM and product leadership positions. This career fits you if you like combining strategy, data, and an understanding of what makes people tick. You'll do well if you're analytical, organized, and comfortable making decisions with numbers while still caring about the user experience. Leadership and clear communication matter, since you'll guide a team and explain your plans.
