As an FP&A analyst, short for financial planning and analysis, you help a company see and shape its financial future. You build budgets, create forecasts, and analyze whether the business is on track to hit its goals. Over time, many analysts pursue certifications such as the CFA, CPA, or the FMVA to deepen their credibility, though a track record of sharp analysis matters just as much. The jobs exist in almost every industry, since any company that plans its money needs FP&A, from tech and retail to healthcare, manufacturing, and entertainment. Larger companies and their corporate finance teams offer the clearest paths, and consulting firms hire for these skills too. Careers often begin as a financial analyst, then grow into senior analyst, FP&A manager, and eventually director of finance or roles leading toward CFO.
