Valuation and integration of companies

You work on the deals where companies buy, sell, or merge with one another. As a mergers and acquisitions analyst, your days are filled with financial modeling, valuing businesses, digging through financial statements, and analyzing whether a deal makes sense. You build detailed spreadsheets, research industries, and prepare presentations that guide senior bankers and executives through complex transactions. The work is fast-paced and demanding, often with long hours, and you collaborate closely with lawyers, accountants, and dealmakers as an acquisition moves from idea to signed agreement. To get here, most analysts earn a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or business. Top firms recruit heavily from internships, so landing a finance internship during college is nearly essential. Strong skills in financial modeling and Excel matter enormously, and some analysts pursue credentials like the CFA to deepen their expertise. Excellent grades and a sharp understanding of how businesses create value help you stand out in a competitive hiring process. The market includes investment banks, private equity firms, corporate development teams inside large companies, and advisory firms. Financial centers concentrate many of these jobs, but corporate roles exist across the country. Careers typically start in the analyst role for a couple of intense years, then advance to associate and beyond, or move into private equity, corporate strategy, or other finance paths. This career fits you if you are analytical, driven, and comfortable with pressure and long hours early in your career. You need strong quantitative skills, attention to detail, and the stamina to deliver polished work on tight deadlines.
