Most ghostwriters work freelance, finding clients through referrals, agencies, or platforms that connect writers with people who need them. Clients include business executives, public figures, coaches, and busy professionals who have a story to tell but not the time or skill to write it. Many writers build their reputation on smaller projects, then take on bigger, better-paying work as clients trust them and recommend them to others. This career fits you if you love writing and don't mind staying out of the spotlight. You'll thrive if you're a good listener who can capture someone else's voice, meet deadlines, and handle feedback gracefully. Curiosity about people and their stories helps a lot, along with the discipline to write consistently on your own.
